Marine Aluminum Care, Deep Cleaning & Protective Sealing

Freeman Marine deck hatches and coamings are precision crafted from premium marine-grade aluminum (alloys 6061-T6 and 5086). The metal relies on a microscopic passive oxide barrier to withstand marine saltwater environments. Improper cleaning chemicals or abrasive steel tools can irreversibly compromise this protective film. Here you will find certified restoration and sealing products designed to lift severe chalking and salt deposits while resealing bare aluminum pores with a hydrophobic PTEF polymer shield.

Step-by-step restoration and resealing procedure:

1. Pre-Wash & Degrease

Rinse surface salt crystals with fresh water. Wipe away soot, diesel exhaust, and oil films around dogging points using lint-free industrial wipes.

2. Chemical Deoxidation

Apply Star brite Ultimate Aluminum Cleaner evenly (ideally via pressure sprayer). Allow 3–5 minutes for active foaming action to dissolve oxidation, then rinse thoroughly.

3. PTEF Sealant Finish

Chemical cleaning leaves pores bare. Work Star brite Aluminum Polish into the surface using polishing waste or microfiber to establish a durable hydrophobic, UV-resistant shield.

Critical metallurgical rule: Never use steel wool or carbon steel wire brushes on Freeman marine aluminum. They embed microscopic iron particulates that trigger violent galvanic pitting and surface rust. Use only non-metallic scrubbing pads, lint-free rags, and chemical solutions within pH 4.5–8.5.
