The Freeman Marine Model 2428-HK (2476 Series) is a heavy-duty, commercial-grade hinged rectangular deck hatch featuring an expansive 24" x 28" (610 x 711 mm) clear opening and time-tested knife-edge sealing technology. With its generous rectangular dimensions, it is ideally configured for emergency escape trunks, crew manholes, and machinery access while providing the safety of captive hinged operation.
The heavy-duty integrated hinge secures the cover plate directly to the deck ring, preventing uncontrolled swinging, accidental slamming in rough seas, or overboard loss. Freeman's knife-edge design concentrates dogging closure force along a machined coaming knife edge against a resilient hollow gasket housed inside the cover plate. This establishes an uncompromising 100% watertight and weathertight seal capable of resisting extreme hydrostatic heads and heavy deck washdown. Recessed within the cover plate channel, the seal is shielded from mechanical damage, dropped objects, and heavy foot traffic during open deck operations.
