The ODEO Distress Flare™ is an advanced electronic visual distress signal device (eVDSD) created to provide a safer, longer-lasting alternative to hand-held pyrotechnic flares.
Operating for around 8 hours at full output compared to just 30–60 seconds for pyrotechnics, it significantly increases detection opportunities. The dual optical array combines high-output red LEDs with five 830 nm infrared LEDs, making the signal instantly visible to search and rescue crews using Night Vision Goggles (NVG).
Key Features:
- Dual-spectrum signaling: high-intensity red LED plus thermal/IR detection diodes.
- Visible range between 3 to 6 nautical miles under standard marine conditions.
- Automatically transmits the internationally recognised SOS distress sequence.
- Submersible to IP68 (waterproof to 50 meters) and naturally buoyant.
- Powered by 4 user-replaceable AA batteries (lithium L91 recommended for maximum life).
- Non-pyrotechnic design allows safe flight baggage carriage and zero fire hazards.
Supplied with wrist lanyard. A dedicated neoprene protective pouch is available separately.
