Vickers Oils ECOSTERN SMX 100 sterntube EAL

The non-emulsifiable stern tube oil Vickers Oils ECOSTERN SMX 100 is based on renewable synthetic esters, with a viscosity of 100 cSt at 40 °C. It is designed for owners who prefer to separate off any water ingress from the stern tube, with enhanced fluid service life under severe operating conditions. Applications: Stern tubes where the owner prefers to separate off water ingress rather than form an emulsion. Suited to sensitive environments where there is a risk of oil leakage to the marine environment. Benefits: Excellent lubrication under both boundary and hydrodynamic conditions in the stern tube, enhanced fluid service life under severe operating conditions, excellent demulsification especially when mixed with sea water, compatible with metals and elastomers commonly used in stern tubes, biodegradable and practically non-toxic. Technical profile: Viscosity 100 cSt at 40 °C (ASTM D7042), pour point −36 °C (ASTM D7346), flash point >170 °C (ASTM D92), density 0.919 kg/l at 15 °C (ASTM D4052), base oil renewable synthetic esters, non-emulsifiable. Shelf life 5 years in original sealed container stored out of direct sunlight. Approvals/environmental profile: Meets the VGP definition of an Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL) under US EPA 2013. Approved by leading OEMs such as KEMEL and Wärtsilä for up to 5 years when used with OEM elastomers recommended for EALs. Biodegradable (over 60 percent in the 28-day OECD 301B test) and practically non-toxic in the marine environment.
