Vickers Oils HYDROX 21 is a mineral-based, emulsifiable stern tube oil known as "first aid for stern tubes". Launched in 1971, it is used as an emergency measure to reduce oil leakage past a damaged aft seal, typically cutting the leakage rate by around 70 percent. The oil is compatible with most engine and system oils used in the stern tube and can be added as a top-up to the existing charge. It absorbs sea or fresh water ingress to form a stable emulsion that continues to provide lubrication and corrosion protection. Approved by the leading lip and face stern seal manufacturers.

    Description

    Article no.: BVO-10021

Vickers Oils HYDROX 21 is a mineral-based, emulsifiable stern tube oil with a typical viscosity of about 275 cSt at 40 °C. Launched in 1971 and known as "first aid for stern tubes", it is an emergency solution for reducing oil leakage past a damaged or worn aft seal. In most cases the leakage rate is reduced by around 70 percent while still providing excellent bearing lubrication in both neat and emulsion forms. Applications: Stern tubes where oil leakage past the aft seals is a problem, and some stabiliser fin shafts. Can be introduced as a top-up to the existing stern tube oil. Compatible with most engine and system oils used in the stern tube and with the elastomers used in lip seal systems. Benefits: Reduces oil leakage past a damaged aft seal by around 70 percent in typical cases, excellent lubrication in both neat and emulsion forms, superior wear and corrosion protection, compatible with common metals and elastomers in lip seals, absorbs sea or fresh water ingress to form a stable emulsion that prevents free water, maintains corrosion protection during standing and start-up. Technical profile: Typical viscosity 275 cSt at 40 °C, viscosity index 100, pour point below −5 °C (IP15), density 0.9 kg/l at 15 °C, mineral-based, emulsifiable. Passes the SKF Water Emcor corrosion test. Approvals/environmental profile: Approved by the leading lip and face stern seal manufacturers. Tested by Class with stability, lubricating and corrosion protection performance verified by Lloyds Register. Mineral oil based product, not an EAL.
