Hydraulic Oils from Vickers Oils: ECOSURE HSE and ECOSURE EAF
ECOSURE is a range of biodegradable, high-performance anti-wear hydraulic oils from Vickers Oils, based on renewable synthetic esters with state-of-the-art ashless, zinc-free additives. The range covers two lines: ECOSURE EAF for deck equipment and other hydraulic systems where oil leakage to the marine environment may occur, particularly suited to equipment in very cold climates, and ECOSURE HSE for heavy duty in critical applications below the waterline. Both lines are VGP compliant, exceed the requirements of ISO 15380 (category HEES) and achieve more than 60 % biodegradability in the 28-day OECD 301B test.
ECOSURE HSE: hydraulic oil for heavy duty
ECOSURE HSE is a biodegradable, high-performance anti-wear hydraulic fluid for heavy duty, based on fully saturated renewable esters with ashless, zinc-free additives. The fluid is intended for critical applications below the waterline where oil leakage to the marine environment may occur, for example CPP units, stabilisers and heavy cranes. It exceeds the requirements of ISO 15380 (category HEES) and meets the US EPA definition of an Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL) under the 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP).
-
Viscosity grades: ISO VG 32, 46, 68 and 100
-
Applications: CPP units, stabilisers, ramps, deck equipment, some thrusters and heavy cranes, critical applications below the waterline
-
Benefits: high performance for heavy duty, excellent viscosity-temperature profile, shear-stable without viscosity index improvers, fully saturated esters with high oxidation stability
-
Environmental profile: biodegradable (over 60 % in the 28-day OECD 301B test), assessed as non-toxic in the marine environment, VGP EAL per US EPA 2013
-
Approvals: ISO 15380 (HEES), Swedish standard 15 54 34, Eaton Vickers, Denison
ECOSURE EAF: hydraulic oil for deck equipment
ECOSURE EAF is a biodegradable, anti-wear hydraulic fluid based on renewable synthetic esters with ashless, zinc-free additives, intended for deck equipment and other hydraulic systems where oil leakage to the marine environment may occur. The fluid is particularly suited to equipment exposed to very cold climates and exceeds the requirements of ISO 15380 (category HEES). It meets the US EPA definition of an Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL) under the 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP).
-
Viscosity grades: ISO VG 22, 32, 46, 68 and 100
-
Applications: watertight doors, ramps, platforms, davits, cranes, winches, capstans and other deck equipment, particularly in cold climates
-
Benefits: excellent viscosity-temperature profile, shear-stable without viscosity index improvers, superior anti-wear performance and ashless, zinc-free additives
-
Environmental profile: biodegradable (over 60 % in the 28-day OECD 301B test), assessed as non-toxic in the marine environment, VGP EAL per US EPA 2013
-
Approvals: ISO 15380 (HEES), Eaton 104C, Denison, USDA BioPreferred

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between ECOSURE EAF and ECOSURE HSE?
ECOSURE EAF is intended for deck equipment and is particularly suited to cold climates, while ECOSURE HSE is a high-performance hydraulic fluid for heavy duty in critical applications below the waterline, for example CPP units, stabilisers and heavy cranes. Both are VGP compliant EALs based on synthetic esters.
Is ECOSURE VGP compliant?
Yes. Both ECOSURE EAF and ECOSURE HSE meet the US EPA definition of an Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL) under the 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP).
Which viscosity grade do I need?
It follows the equipment manufacturer recommendation. ECOSURE EAF is available in ISO VG 22, 32, 46, 68 and 100, and ECOSURE HSE in ISO VG 32, 46, 68 and 100.
Is ECOSURE biodegradable?
Yes. ECOSURE achieves more than 60 % biodegradability in the 28-day OECD 301B test and is assessed as non-toxic in the marine environment.
Why does ECOSURE not use viscosity index improvers?
ECOSURE has an excellent viscosity-temperature profile without viscosity index improvers, which means the fluid does not shear down in service, unlike many high-VI mineral oils.
What approvals does ECOSURE hold?
ECOSURE exceeds the requirements of ISO 15380 (category HEES) and holds a wide range of OEM approvals, including Eaton and Denison. ECOSURE HSE also meets Swedish standard 15 54 34.
